The heat was on, but only figuratively! This year, the competition was held in the air-conditioned function room of Rainbow Paradise Beach Resort. As such, the sweltering Penang heat was not an issue during this year's event. The competition was fierce, every contestant was "in it to win it". Eventually Lai Ze Ren emerged as the winner for Category 1 (stay tuned for an interview with Lai Ze Ren). If you remembered, Ze Ren also won the same during last year's competition. Jarred Dev-Ooi was judged the winner for Category 2. However, in our books, all the contestants are already winners in their own right. Here are the results...

The evening's concert started off with local guitarist, Victor Ng taking to the stage to play a few songs. Our guest guitarist cum judge from KL - Hady Afro later thrilled the crowd with his guitar prowess. It is no wonder why Hady is such a sought after performer. Hady had earlier in the afternoon given a workshop on fingerstyle guitar. Among the topics that Hady touched on were the arrangement of incorporating multiple musical layers and parts such as the bass, rhythm and melody all into a fingerstyle piece. He also talked about exercises for the fingerstyle guitarists.
A word of thanks to the judges of the Qualifying Round i.e. Az Samad, Clifford Cheam, Edwin Ch'ng, Roger Wang, Victor Ng, William Kok and Yong Wee Chan; and to the Grand Finals judges Hady Afro, George Boesger Sr. and and Leon Thum.
